Herding Basics Seminar by Meir Ben-Dror
This workshop will help you understand what the Pumi is expected to do when exposed to a flock of sheep. It’ll explain what’s happening during the Herding Instinct Testing on Sunday and when the handlers and their dogs are working as a team to move the livestock through the course at the trial. Meir has been training his Pumik in herding for 9 years, has put herding titles on 5 of his dogs up to the Advanced level, including the first AHBA Herding Champion Pumi. He has worked with herding trainers in the US and in visits to Hungary.
Pumi Coat Maintenance Seminar
This seminar will cover everyday grooming of the Pumi, the techniques and tools to keep your Pumi mat-free and looking like the whimsical characters they are. Chris will also go over the steps to get your Pumi ready for the finishing touches at the scissoring workshop on Saturday morning.
Pumi Conformation and Breed Type Seminar by Chris Levy
What makes a good Pumi according to the AKC standard for the breed? What type of structure, head, eye, ears, coat, color, tail, feet and many other things goes into making the perfect Pumi. Chris will use the same Powerpoint presentation given to AKC judges, but will talk about it from the owner’s perspective, along with a bit of history of the club and Pumi’s history in the US.
Pumi Color Genetics by Chris Levy
This seminar will start with the basics of simple autosomal recessive genetics (how to figure out what percentage of puppies will carry certain genes) and go on to the color genetics that we know of in the Pumi. We’ll also discuss the Born Gray anomaly and the Brindle gene as we know it today. There’s a tendency to think that because we know something of DNA testing for color, that we know it all, and we’ll talk about what we know and what we don’t know.
Pumi Scissoring by Chris Levy
Chris will scissor a dog and talk about how the standard for the breed dictates how we groom them.
Pumi Breeders Forum, moderated by Maria Arechaederra & Ginger Butler
Birth to 8 weeks: Open discuss of best practices in and out of the whelping box. All Pumifest attendees are welcome.
